Even an amazing vehicle like the 2018 Kia Optima will need to undergo emissions testing eventually. At Folsom Lake Kia, we want to make sure that your vehicle passes this testing the first time around. To that end, we’ve made a list of a few of the more helpful tips and tricks to make that happen.
Check Your Check Engine Light
Assuming your car doesn’t fail automatically from having the check engine light on, whatever is causing it to shine will almost certainly disqualify you. Many of the systems that can trigger the check engine light just happen to be the very systems being assessed during the test. If your check engine light comes on, let one of the service technicians in our Kia service center find out what’s causing the issue and fix it for you.
Clean Your Catalytic Converter
Firstly, the catalytic converter is the part of your car that converts harmful emissions so that you aren’t freely spreading them into the atmosphere. Making sure it’s clean is pretty paramount to passing the emissions test. If it is dirty with residual gas and oil, it’s not going to work the way it’s supposed to.
Cleaning the catalytic converter is as simple as heading out on the highway. Oil and gas burn away at high enough temperatures, temperatures your car can create on it’s on when pushed enough. You probably won’t be able to get to the speed you need on city streets. A few 20-minute sessions in the weeks approaching the test should do the trick nicely.
Remember, you always have the option to bring your car to us here at Folsom Lake Kia. Here, we can take any mystery out of the process and make sure your vehicle passes its test!
