Flat tires have happened to nearly all of us; you’re driving down the street and suddenly you hear a pop and your car swings to one side and becomes difficult to control. Unfortunately, flat tires are an inevitable aspect of owning a car, but one way to make them less painful is by knowing how to change out your tire. Here at our Kia service center, our team of mechanics is happy to provide you with a quick guide on how to change a flat tire.

Get to a safe spot: When you’re changing your tire, you’ll want to be on the shoulder of the road, in a parking lot, or in any spot where other drivers aren’t going to run you over.

Find your spare tire, jack, and tire iron: The spare tire is often located underneath the floor mat in the trunk of cars like the 2019 Kia Optima. Likewise, the jack and tire iron are often nearby.

Loosen the wheel lugs: Using the tire iron, loosen each wheel lug. Because they’re often very tight, you’ll have to use brute force. Next, move the jack under the car.

Jack up the car: Once the jack is underneath the jack point, start to raise the jack, simply by turning the knob using the hand crank.

Remove the flat tire and install the spare: Remove the wheel lugs completely and remove the tire itself. Next, install the spare by lining up the holes with the wheel studs.

Lower the car and tighten the wheel lugs: Once the tire is on, lower the car using the jack and tighten the wheel lugs.

Bring your car to our service center: Because your spare tire is not intended for driving long distances, make sure to bring your car into our Kia service center so that we can install a new tire.
