Safety is a top priority for Kia, so it is an honor to have the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety name one of our vehicles at Top Safety Pick Plus. The vehicle that earned this title is the 2016 Kia Optima. Want to know more about this vehicle and what it takes to be a Top Safety Pick Plus? Keep reading for more information.

The Top Safety Pick Plus is the highest designation that the Insurance Institute awards. To earn this award the vehicle must earn top scores in each of the five crashworthiness tests in addition to the integration of an active safety technology that aids in crash prevention. The crashworthiness tests include small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraints.

The 2016 Kia Optima includes a variety of driver-aid technology like Advanced Smart Cruise Control (ASCC), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) with Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Rear Parking Assist System (RPAS), Front Collision Warning System (FCWS), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)

“The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety sets some of the highest standards of crashworthiness, and the Top Safety Pick Plus designation is a significant achievement for the Kia brand and for our best-selling vehicle,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, KMA.  “We are pleased that the all-new Optima received strong ratings across the range of rigorous tests set forth by IIHS.  This rating validates the efforts of our engineers and the priority we place on safety for our consumers.”
